Many objects in nature are complex and irregular. Therefore their description with traditional methods is insufficient. A new approach is the application of fractal geometry. There are several concepts to classify a structure by dimension analysis. The following review gives a summary of different kinds of dimensions and estimators for the fractal dimension.
